Borgo Pignano’s sustainable infrastructure is the backbone of all our activities.
All building renovations have been performed using environmentally friendly products and materials such as locally sourced stone and reclaimed slate, organic plasters and eco-paints.
Wherever possible, we try to protect the environment with innovative and traditional farming techniques - improving the soil and decreasing the need for water. We have successfully experimented with swales, a natural system for retaining rainwater and preventing soil erosion – a first for Tuscany.
The heating and hot water systems within the Villa are fueled by solar panels and chip-fired boilers which are fed by wood harvested from the estate’s forests. Borgo Pignano’s gardens are nourished by filtered harvested rainwater, while natural and manmade lakes supply irrigation for the farmland.
To add to our devotion to a soft footprint, there are two electric charging points in the parking area and electric buggies for guests occupying each villa.
In 2021 Borgo Pignano earned the Green Globe certification for its commitment to sustainability meeting the requirements for Green Globe Standard 1.7, CEO Category - Hotel & Resort.
